HEADLINE: Soviet General Killed In Plane Crash

BODY: An air force general died when his fighter plane crashed near the city of Khabarovsk in the Soviet Far East, the army newspaper reported today. Maj. Gen. Pavel Ettinger was on a routine training flight when his single-seat SU-27 went down Wednesday, the Red Star newspaper said. It quoted local air force headquarters as saying another pilot in the air nearby at the time reported seeing an explosion ahead of him. The cause of the crash was not disclosed.
