Ecuador's air force commander and two other generals were killed yesterday night
along with at least three others when their small military plane hit a mountain
near Quito, the government said. The plane, carrying Gen. Angel Augusto Flores,
52, the air force chief, and Gens. Raul Cousin and Galo Coronel, crashed into
the mountain on the outskirts of this highland capital at about 6 p.m. (7 p.m.
EDT).
Police at the scene said five bodies were recovered from the wreckage and another
body was believed still inside. The cause of the crash was not immediately known.
