HEADLINE: Congressman Killed In Plane Crash
DATELINE: MANILA, Philippines
BODY:
A Philippine congressman and at least two others were killed Sunday when a private plane crashed on Catanduanes island about 230 miles east of Manila, officials said.
Victorino Palpalatoc, assistant secretary of transport, said the bodies of Rep. Moises Tapia and two others had been recovered after their Beechcraft plane crashed as it approached the airport in Virac during bad weather.
Three other people were believed aboard the plane but there was no indication if they survived, Palpalatoc said.
Tapia, an independent, was the first member of Congress to die since the May 11 elections, in which voters chose 24 Senators and 200 members of the House of Representatives.
